Whole-Home Dehumidifiers
If the house feels clammy in summer, the basement smells musty, or moisture keeps showing up in certain rooms, excess humidity may be the issue. A whole-home dehumidifier helps pull that moisture back under control.

Serving Washington, DC, Prince George's County, Montgomery County & Northern Virginia, including Upper Marlboro, Hyattsville, District Heights and Silver Spring.
Indoor air quality problems do not always look the same. One home feels dry all winter, another gets damp and musty in summer, and another has dust or debris moving through the ductwork. The right fix depends on which of those problems is actually happening.
Nero's Heating & Air focuses on the IAQ services we genuinely provide: whole-home humidifiers, whole-home dehumidifiers and air duct cleaning. We start with what you are noticing in the house, look at the conditions behind it and recommend the service that fits. The goal is not to add equipment for the sake of it, but to make the home feel cleaner, more comfortable and easier to live in.

| Stat | What it means for your house |
|---|---|
| 60% humidity | Once indoor humidity stays above this level, moisture problems become more likely and mold has an easier environment to grow. |
| Climate Zone 4A | The DMV has a mixed-humid climate, so homes can deal with excess moisture in summer and overly dry air in winter. |
| 2 seasonal extremes | The same house can feel damp in August and dry in January because outdoor conditions change how much moisture the indoor air can hold. |
| 3 core IAQ services | Nero's Heating & Air focuses on duct cleaning, whole-home humidifiers and whole-home dehumidifiers. |
The right service depends on what the house is doing. Our team focuses on three indoor air quality services, each built around a different kind of problem.

If the house feels clammy in summer, the basement smells musty, or moisture keeps showing up in certain rooms, excess humidity may be the issue. A whole-home dehumidifier helps pull that moisture back under control.

If winter brings static shocks, dry throats, irritated skin or gaps opening in wood floors and trim, the air may be too dry. A whole-home humidifier adds moisture back through the HVAC system.

If you are seeing debris at the registers, signs of pest activity or visible contamination inside the ductwork, duct cleaning may be worth looking at. We check what is actually going on before recommending the service.
Start with what the house is telling you. Clammy rooms and a musty basement can point to excess humidity, while static and dry winter air suggest the opposite. Visible debris or contamination may put the ducts in question. If you are still unsure, call us. We can help narrow down the problem and the right next step.

Pricing depends on which service your home actually needs. A $75 diagnostic applies when there is a specific problem to investigate and is waived on the work if you move forward. Sunday, after-hours and rooftop visits are $169 and are not waived.
From there, duct cleaning is priced by system, while whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers are quoted based on the equipment, installation setup and how they connect to the existing HVAC system. You see the full price before any work begins.
A DMV house spends August above the comfort band and January below it. That is one building with two opposite problems six months apart, and the equipment that solves one does nothing whatever for the other.
| Too humid, roughly May to September | Too dry, roughly December to March | |
|---|---|---|
| What you notice | Clammy air, a basement smell, condensation on cold surfaces | Static, cracking trim, dry throats, gaps opening in floorboards |
| What is happening | Outdoor moisture is getting in faster than cooling removes it | Heated air holds more moisture and there is none available to hold |
| What actually fixes it | A dehumidifier, and stopping any water getting in first | A humidifier tied into the heating system |
| What does not fix it | A better filter, or anything sold as a purifier | The same, and turning the heat up makes it worse |
| Where it goes wrong | Treating moisture as an air problem when water is coming in | Adding moisture to a house that already has condensation on the glass |
Dry winter air, excess summer humidity and contaminated ductwork are different problems. We start by identifying which one is affecting the home so the recommendation has a clear reason behind it.

A room can feel stuffy without being too humid, and condensation can appear before the house feels damp. Actual humidity readings give us something concrete to work from before recommending a humidifier or dehumidifier.
Our involvement does not end when the equipment is installed or the service is finished. Around six months later, Nero's Heating & Air follows up to see how things are working, answer questions and make sure the solution is still doing what it was meant to do.
We look at the rooms where the air feels dry, damp or uncomfortable and talk through when the problem tends to show up.
Humidity readings, visible moisture, duct conditions and the way the HVAC system is operating help us narrow down what is actually affecting the home.
That may mean a whole-home humidifier, dehumidifier or duct cleaning. We explain why that option fits the problem and what the work would involve before anything moves forward.
If we install humidity-control equipment, we test the system, set the controls and show you how to adjust them as conditions change through the year.
Nero's Heating & Air provides indoor air quality services throughout Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Our team handles whole-home humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air duct cleaning across the communities listed below. If your town is not on the list, it is still worth a call.
Tell us what you are noticing at home. Maybe the basement feels damp, winter air feels painfully dry, or something around the vents has you concerned. We can help you decide what kind of visit makes sense from there.
You do not need humidity readings, equipment names or a diagnosis before reaching out. A quick conversation is enough to get the process started.
Our team includes Filipino-speaking staff who can help with scheduling and questions if that makes the conversation easier.

“[…] They actually took the time to look at my entire existing HVAC setup and figure out why I wasn’t getting the airflow I should have been getting. They found several issues, corrected them, opened up the system, improved the ductwork, made my returns larger, and massively improved the airflow in my home. […]”

Under sixty percent is the line that matters most, and somewhere in the thirties to forties is comfortable. A cheap hygrometer will tell you where you sit.
Because cooling and drying are related but not the same job. A system that is oversized cools the room quickly and switches off before it has removed much moisture.
Not always, though it does mean moisture has been sitting somewhere long enough to matter. Finding where that water comes from beats treating the smell itself every single time.
Slightly, yes. Lower in winter helps you avoid condensation forming on cold glass, while summer is about staying under the level at which mold becomes likely at all.
Some do, for particles. We do not install them, so you will get a straight answer here rather than a recommendation, and humidity is usually the bigger lever anyway.
