Heating & Cooling Services in Rockville, Maryland

Rockville’s housing spans several generations, from post-war neighborhoods to newer communities built since 2000. That means one home may be on its third furnace, while another is still running the equipment the builder installed. Nero's Heating & Air works with furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and water heaters across that range.

You see that mix from Twinbrook and Woodley Gardens to King Farm, Fallsgrove and the condominium communities near Hungerford Drive. We work with the different systems that those homes have picked up over the years.

Heating Services

Furnace work is the bulk of what our heating technicians do in winter, from a burner that will not light to a system that runs and never reaches the setting. Repair, maintenance, and replacement all sit with them, along with boiler and radiator work in the older houses.

HVAC Permits in Rockville Come From the City, Not the County

Within Rockville city limits, HVAC permits are issued by the City of Rockville, not Montgomery County. The city’s Inspection Services issues the mechanical permit when a furnace, air conditioner, heat pump or boiler is installed, replaced or removed.

You do not have to handle that process yourself. Our installation team files the permit, submits the equipment details and required state license information, and carries it through the final inspection. The permit fee is included on your final invoice rather than collected separately during the job.

Some detached homes require an additional document: a house location survey showing where the outdoor unit will be located. Rockville also offers an express route for mechanical permits, so straightforward projects can usually move through the paperwork without it becoming the part that holds up the job.

Paying for a New HVAC System in Rockville

Rebates

Which rebate applies here is determined by the equipment, not the address. Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco) runs the residential electric side of EmPOWER Maryland and Washington Gas runs the high-efficiency gas heating side, so a heat pump and a condensing furnace go down two different routes.

When our team comes out to quote the replacement, the rebate route is part of that conversation, so you know which one you are on before any equipment is ordered.

Financing

A furnace or an air conditioner rarely fails on a schedule that suits a budget. Financing spreads the replacement cost across monthly payments instead of one payment, and the options come back attached to your written estimate, so the monthly payment and the full replacement price are in front of you before anything is signed.

Questions Rockville Homeowners Ask

It can. Montgomery County has required radon testing before most home sales since 2016, and where a mitigation fan shares a basement with a vented furnace, our technicians check the draft.

Usually yes, with review. The City of Rockville Historic District Commission handles exterior work in districts like West Montgomery Avenue, and the chief of zoning can approve HVAC components at staff level.

Timing, not coincidence. A third of the housing here dates from 2000 or later, so whole streets hit the same age together. Plenty of those systems are still repairable.

Both are common. Census figures put utility gas at 60 percent of occupied homes and electricity at 37. Washington Gas serves the streets, so the choice is not about supply.

Often. A heat pump reverses briefly to clear frost from the outdoor coil, so ice that melts away is normal and ice that sits through the cycle is a fault.
